Bill Jones

Bill Jones received his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from The College of Pharmacy at the University of Arizona in 1972 and 1979, respectively. He began his pharmacy career as a Commissioned Officer in the US Public Health Service (1972-1976). He was the Pharmacy Program Manager for Clinical Services at the Southern Arizona VA Healthcare System for 28 years and was the Residency Program Director from 1983-2006. He also was the Education, Research, and Performance Improvement Pharmacist for the VA Central Office for 3 additional years. Bill retired from the VA in September 2009 after more than 35 years of Federal service. He is an author of more than
70 peer reviewed articles, abstracts/posters, and book chapters. He spent most of his career as a teacher and is a Clinical Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Science at the U of A College of Pharmacy. He is an Instructor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacology in the College of Medicine since 2006. From December 2012 until October 2021, he was the Clinical Pharmacist (part time) for the Arizona Center on Aging, Banner Medical Group, Healthy Together Care Partnership, a program to provide care for high risk/high utilizing Medicaid and Medicaid patients. Bill was the first VA pharmacist to receive the VA Administrator's Hands and Heart Award (1983) and the APhA Distinguished Federal Pharmacist Award (2006). He has been the Hospital Pharmacist of the Year twice in Arizona (1984, 1992), received The U of A College of Pharmacy Clinical Educator of the Year (1991), and Preceptor of the Year Award (2002). He is a Past-President of the Arizona Society of Hospital pharmacists. He received a U of A Professional Achievement Award (2006). Bill has been a member of APhA and ASHP for 49 years and is a Fellow of ASHP.
